Kandy was the last capital of the Sri Lankan kings and is a World Heritage Site. The name “Kandy” conjures visions of splendor and magnificence. Many of the legends, traditions and folklore are still lovingly kept alive. Kandy is the home to the Royal Palace and the temple of the Sacred Tooth, which houses the holy relic of the tooth of the Buddha.
En route visit Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, a conservation and education centre and home to about 60 elephants which were found abandoned or orphaned in the wild.
The rest of the day is at leisure to explore the city.

This morning, enjoy sightseeing tour of Kandy. Visit the Peradeniya Botanical Garden – First built as a pleasure garden by a Sinhala king and was later expanded by the British. Visit the Kandy town and bazaar, the arts and crafts centre, a gem museum and a lapidary. Also visit the Temple of the Tooth Relic in Kandy. Thereafter witness a cultural show.

This morning, check-out of your hotel and transfer to Bentota via Kitulgala. Visit the Kelani river flowing through Kitulgala, the main location where the Oscar winning Movie ‘Bridge on the River Kwai’ was filmed.

The day is at leisure for independent activities. You can explore the stunning surroundings of Bentota, or take an optional trip to Balapitiya for a river safari. Enjoy a two hour boat trip to Madu river, where you can experience day to day activities of villagers on the island. Being one of the most established beach destinations in Sri Lanka, Bentota offers great water sports possibilities. Apart from swimming, body-surfing or diving in the sea, you can jet-ski, windsurf, parasail or enjoy a romantic river safari on the river and lagoon.

Colombo, like many capital cities in developing countries is fast changing its face. Almost overnight, skyscrapers arise from where old buildings once stood. Yet in some parts, the old world charm is retained. For example, there is a 100-year-old clock tower and several British built colonial buildings. Other places of interest are a Hindu and a Buddhist temple, the oriental bazaar at Pettah, the fort, the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) – an outright gift to Sri Lanka from the People’s Republic of China & the old parliament.
Also visit Colombo Museum & the folk art centre.
